A Quiet Weekend in Old Town Stanwood and Camano Island

The Retro Willows in Stanwood, WA

Stanwood is the kind of small town people drive past on I-5 and wish they’d stopped. Old Town Stanwood has Victorian buildings, tree-lined sidewalks and a friendly main street, and Camano Island is right next door. Here’s how to spend a slow weekend.

Wander Old Town

Start with coffee and walk the main street. Browse the local shops and cafes, and look up at the historic buildings. Our own Retro Willows apartment is inside an 1890 Victorian landmark.

Head to Camano Island

Camano Island is just across the bridge from Stanwood. Spend the afternoon at Camano Island State Park or Cama Beach for beach walks, water views and, on clear days, mountain views across the water.

In spring: the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival

Every April, the fields north of Stanwood around Mount Vernon and La Conner fill with tulips. Stanwood is a quieter, closer place to stay than the crowded festival towns. Book early, because April weekends fill up fast.
