Fall and winter in Snohomish County mean one thing for sure: rain. The good news is that Everett, WA has plenty to do when the weather turns gray. You can spend the day indoors, then come home to a stone fireplace and a view of Silver Lake.
Here are our favorite rainy day ideas near the Silver Lake House, a 1950s lakefront cabin in south Everett, about 30 minutes north of Seattle.
Boeing Future of Flight in Mukilteo
If you have aviation fans in your group, this is the big one. The Boeing Future of Flight center sits at Paine Field in Mukilteo, a short drive from the cabin. It’s also where the Boeing factory tour starts, with a bus ride over to the Everett plant, known as the largest building in the world by volume.
Boeing now runs Future of Flight and the factory tour seven days a week. Newer additions include flight simulators where you can try flying a 787 Dreamliner or an F/A-18 Super Hornet. Check the Future of Flight website for current hours and tickets before you go.
Imagine Children’s Museum in Downtown Everett
Traveling with little ones? Imagine Children’s Museum on Wall Street in downtown Everett is the largest children’s museum in the Pacific Northwest, packed with hands-on exhibits for toddlers through elementary-age kids. It’s an easy way to burn off energy on a wet afternoon.
Tip: the museum holds a free Community Access Night on the third Thursday of each month from 3 to 7 PM. Coming up: Thursday, November 19 and Thursday, December 17, 2026.
Schack Art Center (Free Admission)
The Schack Art Center on Hoyt Avenue is a great stop for grown-ups and older kids. Gallery admission is always free. It’s open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 AM to 5 PM and Sunday from noon to 5 PM, and closed Mondays. Pair it with lunch or coffee at one of the nearby downtown spots.
Or Just Stay In at the Lake House
Sometimes the best rainy day plan is no plan at all. The Silver Lake House was made for cozy days in:
- A stone fireplace and sunken living room with original mid-century wood paneling
- A game room with air hockey and its own outside entrance
- A smart TV and fast Wi-Fi for movie nights
- A full kitchen for soup, cocoa, or a big family dinner
- Washer and dryer for drying out wet rain jackets
When the rain lets up, step outside to the private dock and watch the lake. The 2.2-mile loop around Silver Lake passes two public parks and a disc golf course, perfect for a quick walk between showers.
Where to Stay in Everett: Silver Lake House
The cabin has 3 bedrooms and 1.5 baths and sleeps up to 7. It’s pet-friendly (a pet fee applies), close to I-5, and an easy drive to Mill Creek, Mukilteo, and Paine Field. An Everett Transit bus stop is just a block or two away.
A few house notes: quiet hours are 9 PM to 8 AM, no parties, and no outdoor fires. There’s no fence between the lawn and the water, so keep an eye on kids and pets.
